BOBBIO - PASSO PENICE
The historical commemoration of the classical 12 kilometres and 300 metres uphill car race Bobbio - Passo Penice is kept during the month of September.
The first edition was strongly wanted in 1929 by the Podestà of Bobbio Antonio Renati and by RACI (the present ACI Piacenza): the winner was the Duke Luigi Visconti of Modrone in a Bugatti and the second place went to Gino Cavanna.
Enzo Ferrari won in 1931, the last edition before war, in an Alfa Romeo 8C 2300: the Modena champion became then the "Drake of Maranello”.
The race resumed in the years 1952 and 1953 with the mixed formula of speed and regularity.
Tarquinio Provini won the last edition of the fifities reserved to motorcycles (1954): the Piacenza racer became world champion.
After the tragic events of Le Mans and the Mille Miglia, the races were interrupted for some years.
In 1994 the "Piacenza Vintage Cars Club" wanted to recall this ancient and fascinating race in a unique historical and natural setting and, thanks to the CPAE enterprise, now it is an event of remarkable and growing success.
